From the award-winning director of Dogging Tales, and Gypsy Blood, this is a powerful and intimate story of the migrants amassed in Calais as they try to make it to Britain.

In this film Leo Maguire is embedded with the migrants in the camps known as The Jungle. He sleeps where they sleep, and is with them as they try to evade security guards and police - following their desperate attempts to get into the back of lorries - and in extraordinary and never before filmed scenes, waiting with them in the trailers as they try to make the channel crossing undiscovered.

Shot over the course of a year, this film follows a selection of compelling characters, each of whom has fled their homeland in the hope of starting a new life in the UK. We meet Fatuma, who tells us she is fleeing the horrors of Ethiopa where her brothers and sisters were killed; and Robel from Eritrea, who says that his journey began 2 years ago, and that he saw 140 people drown when the overloaded boat he was travelling in sank.

They’ve been described as ‘cockroaches’ a ‘swarm’ and a 'tidal wave’. This film uncovers the human stories behind the headlines, and takes us on this risky, contentious and potentially life-changing journey through the eyes of people making it.

This doc by Leo Maguire isn't an easy watch.  It is, though, a necessary one
